Mica Sample Pack Heaters
Part # M050050A1: 10 watts per square inch; 120 volt; 5 inches x 5 inches with a hole in the middle
Temperature Rating: Process temperatures of 500 to 900 degress Fahrenheit are achievable and common.
Relative Cost: Mica heaters cost twice as much as a silicone rubber heater of the same size.
Waterproofing: Mica is hydroscopic (it absorbs moisture) and cannot be used in a high-humidity environment.
Applications: Laboratory hot plates, cooking grills

Mica's advantage is its high-temperature capability. The mica heater is very rigid, and should not be bent or flexed. Mica will maintain its dielectric strength at temperatures as high as 1,100 degrees F. With the proper controls in place, densities of 50 watts per square inch can be achieved.
The binders holding the mica flakes together will lose their bonding strength at around 700 degrees F. If operating temperatures will exceed this, the heater will need to be clamped in place.
